History
Hakone Jinja Shrine
Built in 757 at the end of the Nara Period (710 - 794), Hakone Jinja Shrine is one of the oldest shrines in the Kanto area. The shrine, believed to protect the area, houses important cultural property such as ancient books, arts & crafts in its treasury. |

Hakone
Sekisyo (Checkpoint)
History states that the checkpoint gate was built to protect the area from rebellions in 1619, the time of Brigadier General Hidetada Tokugawa. The gate was destroyed in 1869 and has since been called the Hakone Sekiso Mark. In 1922, Hakone Checkpoint was designated as an important cultural asset in Japan. |

Hakone Suginamiki Road (Cedar Tree Ave.)
Located on what was previously called Tokaido Street, near Ahinoko Lake, the Hakone Suginamiki Road has 120 cedar trees. The trees were planted at the beginning of the Edo Period (1618). |

Hakone Ishidatami Road (Stone Paved Road)
Also located along Tokaido Street from Hatajuku to Ahinoko Lake, Ishidatami is reminiscent of an ancient Japanese street. |

The Japanese Onsen (Hot Springs)
Onsen, or Japanese Hot Spring, is a very popular tourist attraction in Japan.

and is traditionally experienced in a rustic, open-air natural

rich in history, but are also known for the healthy mineral
content of their natural hot springs water.

Hakone Jinja Shrine

shrine is regarded as 'the village guardian' for the Kanto
area and its treasury houses many important cultural properties
such as ancient books, arts and crafts.

Yosegi
Zaiku (Woodwork) at Hatajuku
Yosegi Zaiku are the traditional wood handicrafts in the Hakone region. They feature
elaborate wood mosaic works, and are known for their complicated
compartments, making them ideal for keeping valuable objects.
The mosaic is created by rods of different woods glued together,
and cut perpendicularly into fine slices.

Amasake Chaya
Located along Hakone Kyu-kaido street between Hatajuku and Hakonejuku, Amasake
Chaya is a 350 year-old shop. It has a cedar bark roof and
was the traditional gathering place for travelers to Hakone.

Kaizokusen
(Pirate Ship)
Togendai-Hakonemachi-Motohakone
Hakone Kaizokusen (Hakone Pirate Ship) is a sightseeing
ship on Ashinoko lake in Hakone, travelling between Togendai
Harbor (in front of Togendai Station) and either Moto-hakone
Harbor or Hakonemachi Harbor.
